In our African traditional society,when we receive a guest,we welcome them by giving them water contained in a calabash.
Since the water symbolize life, the calabash is regarded in the African society as
the container of life.
OUR MISSION
African calabash volunteer's mission is to give more life to the hopes of the underprivileged in our society.
Despite the effort being made by the UN,UNESCO,UNICEF, Governments and non Government agencies to bridge the gap between the rural and the urban communities in the developing countries in terms of social amenities,access to quality education and health care,the rural folks are still behind their urban siblings in terms of these basic needs.Here in Ghana,rural -urban migration of children has become rampant during the pasts few years.Most of these children who migrate to the urban cities to seek greener pastures,end up,engaging in trading activities at the expense of being denied basic education and health care.
 Due to the economic hardship in the urban cities in Ghana,these rural folks are forced to engage in nefarious activities such as,prostitution,stealing and other negative practices.These children normally sleep in front of shops at night.As a result of this many females become victims of rape and various form of molestation.Many teenagers have acquired HIV/AIDS as a result of this in Ghana
The mission of African Calabash Volunteer is help bring an end to these social vices which is eating up the good values of our society.
The education of the girl child is our utmost priority.We want to empower girls,especially the teenagers in the rural areas in Ghana.
We believe love is a gift of God and as such needs to be shared with every one in the world.We are also aware that there are many organizations and kind people, who want an opportunity to contribute their quota towards the advancement humanity irrespective of their race or creed.
The founder of African Calabash Volunteer; Richard Kofi Armah,after doing volunteering services in some rural communities decided to establish the organization in Ghana to offer affordable opportunities for aspiring volunteers who want to volunteer in Ghana.

African calabash volunteer is a non governmental organization and a charity based in Ghana.We are dedicated to offering volunteering opportunities for people who want to volunteer or take part in the following programme:

ARRIVAL
Upon arrival,our staff will be at the Airport to pick you up.Please do not forget to send us your flight information.You will spend the first night in Accra if your flight comes in later than 7:00pm,before proceeding to the project site.
PROGRAMME DATES
Programme is available year round except during August break for volunteers who will volunteer in schools.The start
and end dates are flexible.
ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD
You will be staying with a host family within a rented house.Our host families are carefully screened and selected.Our host families are very sociable and live in safe neighborhood.The family will provide three meals a day .We also have special cooks who do cooking for volunteers.If you are a vegetarian or have allergies,this is taken into account when we arrange your placement.
There are field officers and staffs all over our project site and the director will also be available when you need 24hrs/7days support and supervision.
Volunteering in Ghana with us is our priority,we make sure your stay becomes comfortable.
